For manufacturers exporting chemical products, label durability is both a legal requirement and a critical safety issue. But how can you be sure that your printers and labels comply with the BS5609 standard?
Why Aren’t All Printers Equal?
BS5609 label certification is based on two key components: the label material itself and the printer ink. This combination is approved by an independent certification body, ensuring that both the labels and the ink can withstand prolonged immersion.
Not all printers are equal or compatible with certified label materials, and conversely, certified material is not compatible with every printer. This is why, when sourcing BS5609-compliant labels, it is essential to choose a solution in which both the ink and the labels are certified together. Only this guarantees the required level of durability and resistance.
A Comprehensive Solution for the Chemical Industry
Researching and obtaining approval for certified printer–ink–label combinations is not feasible for every company. Through our two brands, QuickLabel and GetLabels, we offer printer and label solutions that are already certified by an independent organization. Our objective is to provide industrial manufacturers with a complete, turnkey solution, enabling them to handle product labeling in-house with confidence.
We understand that labeling is not your core business. Our consultative approach allows us, during a dedicated meeting, to define your specifications and select the printer best suited to your company. We will also assist you with any required accessories such as rewinders, liner removal systems, or label finishing options.
We also evaluate whether software supplied with the printer is sufficient for layout creation and variable data management, or whether a more advanced RIP software solution is necessary for your specific applications.
We supply all consumables for your equipment, including inks, replacement parts, and custom-made blank labels. Our experts support you in assessing feasibility and managing consumables efficiently.
Finally, to simplify your labeling operations, our technical support teams are available by phone or remotely for no additional cost. Our Teams will also perform on-site training, maintenance, or troubleshooting—ensuring high-quality label production with complete peace of mind.
How Can BS5609-Compliant Label Printers Simplify Chemical Product Labeling?
Switching to in-house labeling may appear to be a major change, or even a leap into the unknown. However, with the right support, it becomes a significant advantage for your business. A label printer allows you to print images, text, logos, barcodes, and variable data in full color in a single pass.
Design updates and modifications can be completed in just a few minutes. Visual creation and adjustment are therefore greatly simplified, enabling rapid marketing tests or swift compliance with new CLP regulations.
You print exactly the quantity of labels you need, which is ideal when managing multiple small production runs. The resulting labels are resistant to water, chemical, abrasion, and UV exposure, ensuring long-lasting quality without fading or smudging.
Once printed and rewound, the labels can be integrated—pre-printed rolls—into your automatic or semi-automatic label application systems.
Which Printers Comply with the BS5609 Standard?
- QL-120De – Label Printer for Small and Medium Runs
The QL-120De is a compact desktop printer capable of printing labels from 12.7 mm to 106 mm in width. Its high speed and photographic print quality make it an ideal solution for in-house label production. - QL-300 – Laser Label Printer
Based on toner technology, the QL-300 offers excellent long-term durability and resistance to environmental constraints. Available in 4 or 5 colors, it prints on a wide range of materials with vibrant color output. Its print width, from 21 mm to 125.5 mm, is more limited, but it remains a major asset for companies seeking quality and robustness. - QL-425 – Label Printer for Medium and Large Runs
This next-generation, high-volume printer with a compact footprint produces high-quality labels at low cost, consuming up to four times less ink. It can print labels as narrow as 80 mm and as wide as 210 mm for medium to large production runs. - QL-435 – Large-Format Label Printer for Medium and Large Runs
Similar to the QL-425, the QL-435 enables cost-effective printing for medium to high volumes. Designed for large-format requirements, it prints labels from 80 mm to 297 mm while maintaining consistent quality throughout production.
